During installation we bring an optical laser of LEICA with us to re-check the geometry of the machine. Depending the concrete floor we suggest to re-check the geometry of the machine each 2 years.
The temperature compensation is developed on the controller for X, Y and Z axes. The compensation system is based on the input of 2 temperature probes:
1. The first probe is measuring the temperature of the frame (= environment) in order to compensate the expansion of the steel frame. This probe is fixed at the frame.
2. The second probe, connected with cable, must be hold against the aluminium profile to compensate the expansion of the aluminium profile.
This temperature compensation will compensate the difference in thermal expansion between the steel frame and the aluminium part.
When the environment temperature rises:
The thermal expansion of the steel frame of the machine is 0,011mm/m/°C ( = 0.0000061”/”/°F ).
The thermal expansion of the aluminium part is 0,022mm/m/°C ( = 0.0000122”/”/°F ).
You will remark that these extensions are larger than you should think. These parts could lose a lot of their tolerance without knowing just because of the temperature.
